Since the UK was put into lockdown back in March, many of us Brits have discovered a new found love of the picturesque landscapes we have around us. Going for long walks and exploring all the nature and wildlife the countryside has to offer. This is something that has kept many of us feeling positive over the past year.
Whether it’s a brisk walk around your local woods or a more relaxed stroll along the beach: there are many ways we can add an alternative twist to our next walk, which brings us closer to nature. With the night’s starting to become lighter and the warmer weather just around the corner, Regatta wanted to help inspire some of your upcoming outdoor adventures in their latest campaign.
Wild Edible Foraging

What better way to be at one with nature than to try some edible goodies such as herbs and berries? Over recent years more of us have been paying closer attention to our diets. Looking at ways they can be made healthier and organic. Foraging is a great place to start as the UK is home to an abundance of tasty edibles. Many of which you may find in your local area.
Foraging for items such as berries can make your walks that little bit more rewarding, but it’s important to make sure you know what you’re looking for. So make sure to complete your research before trying anything you’re unsure of.
Wild Swimming

If you’re confident at swimming and brave enough to take that first cold plunge, then open or wild swimming as it’s also known could be for you. Wild swimming has increased in popularity in recent years. Many experts state that cold water can have several beneficial effects on your physical and mental health.
One of the most rewarding aspects which come with wild swimming is the locations. The idyllic scenery surrounds you. Take Glen Etive in Scotland as an example. Whilst enjoying your swim, you’ll be surrounded by majestic waterfalls and gorges, which are sure to provide you with the ultimate ‘wild’ experience, nature at its best.
Stargazing

Whether you’re enjoying a nighttime walk or relaxing in your back garden, stargazing can offer the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the tranquillity around you. According to numerous studies, stargazing can have several benefits for your health, including the ability to reduce stress and provide a sense of calmness.
Places such as South Downs National Park offer the perfect stargazing experience, with numerous spots to view open landscapes and the stars above. Also, the Brecon Beacons is the location of the first International Dark-Sky reserve in Wales.
It would be great to hear if you have tried any of the activities I’ve mentioned or if you have any suggestions of your own. Share them on social, using #RegattaExplorers.
