So once you’ve decided to visit where should you go, the states and territories can differ remarkably. India is vast, it is the seventh-largest country and most populous democracy in the world. So to help you choose, we’ve selected five fascinating places that should make your trip to India an unforgettable experience.

The Golden Triangle

India’s golden triangle links the country’s northwest cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The triangle has earned the term ‘golden’ due to the extraordinary number of cultural and historical sites in each of the cities. En route, you’ll encounter the mayhem of Delhi, the majesty of the Bengal tigers in Ranthambore National Park and of course, India’s most iconic building, the Taj Mahal.

The Himalayas

The cool climate of Shimla in the Himalayan foothills was welcomed by the British as an escape from the oppressive summer heat, it actually served as India’s summer capital from 1865 to 1939. Despite its faded grandeur Shimla still exudes a certain colonial charm.

For some great views take a trip on the scenic Kalka-Shimla Toy Train. The narrow-gauge line was originally built by the British in 1903 and is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old town overflows with a myriad of market stalls and characters which bombard your senses with unforgettable sights, sounds and smells. It will definitely be an experience you will never forget.

Kerala

Tropical Kerela can be found on the far southwestern Malabar Coast of India. Palm tree-lined slender beaches border the warm waters of the Arabian Sea. Kerala is particularly famous for its backwaters and canals which can be explored by traditional houseboat.

Kerala is also home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, tigers, exotic birds and the odd crocodile. Explore for yourself on a jeep safari, lake cruise, or guided hike.
