We will soon be visiting Florida again, it has been a long old winter in the UK and we can’t wait to feel the Florida heat. We will be visiting Orlando and the theme parks to keep the teenage son happy (and off the iPod for more than 5 minutes) but then we will be travelling across to the Gulf Coast. This is an area we have yet to experience and are looking forward to a relaxing drive from the Tampa Bay, Clearwater area down to the quieter resort of Naples.
In the meantime, to get in the mood here is a summary of our last trip to Florida. Along the stunning US Route 1 from Key West, up to Miami and finishing in Orlando.
Key West, Miami and Orlando

Key West
Relaxed and laid back, enjoy the sun, rum and drag bars. From Ernest Hemingway to psychotic chickens I love this place and all it’s eccentricities. Key West is only 160 miles from Miami but feels a thousand miles away in it’s style and atmosphere, its actually closer to Cuba which is only 90 miles across the water.
Miami
From the eclectic Latino sights and sounds of Little Havana to the glamour and garish South Beach with it’s mix of stylish Art Deco buildings and grisly rejects from “Real Housewives of God Knows Where!” Miami does offer something for everyone – as long as you like it HOT!
Orlando
Walt’s dream to build a theme park in the middle of an alligator infested swamp seemed to have worked out rather well. Orlando is now theme park central with something for all ages, from Disney for the kids to Universal for the stroppy teenagers. There are also some excellent themed hotels, restaurants and bars serving superb cocktails although one thing that isn’t Mickey Mouse is the price.

I’m a huge fan of Orlando, I’m a big kid and I love all the theme parks, the queues not so much. haha. Love your photos. ♥ HWY29
