Pandora To Potter – Our 9 Days In Orlando, Florida

Epcot Disney

We love travelling, whether it’s the lakes and mountains of Austria and Northern Italy, the harsh landscapes of Iceland or the wonderful absurdity that is Las Vegas. There are an endless variety of places to explore and so many different experiences to be had, so just get out there and enjoy.

One destination that we have visited a number of times since we were kids is Orlando, despite our acquired pretensions, we still love the place. It does you good to let your hair down (or whatever is left of it), in a simple, childlike way. Maybe with the added bonus of a few more Mojitos and beer inside you than when you were 10!

This was our fifth visit to Orlando as a couple and apart from a few travel delays, it was the most relaxed. Our decision to spend some afternoons relaxing by the pool was definitely a good one.

Here is a summary of our nine-day trip with hopefully a bit of realism and ‘grumpy man syndrome’ thrown in. If you haven’t been as an adult you should give it a try, forget the travel snobs, put your ears on and simply enjoy!

Pre Trip & Day 1 – Orlando Travel Day

Planning and our travel day. A quick pre trip video and then it’s off to Gatwick airport near London. Staying at the Sofitel hotel and then flying out to Orlando with Virgin Atlantic.
Don’t look at that starboard engine is it meant to have all those men around it!

Day 2 & Day 3 – Epcot And Splitsville

The first full day and it’s off to Disney’s Epcot. A bit of fun on ‘Test Track’ and a look around the World Showcase but don’t mention the ‘Figment Ride’. Day 3 in Disney Springs where we try Splitsville Bowling and eat too many nachos, easily done.

Day 4 & Day 5 – Pandora And Disney Springs

We get up early to visit the new, long awaited Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The next day we take it easy by the pool before looking at the shops and trying too much strange Coca Cola product at Disney Springs.

Day 6 & Day 7 – Universal Studios And Hogsmeade

After getting a bit ‘Disneyed Out’ we head up International Drive to Universal. Visiting Univerasl Studios and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter before moving to Universal’s Cabana Bay Resort Hotel. The next day we board the Hogwarts Express and head straight into a Florida thunderstorm.

Day 8 & Day 9 – Islands Of Adventure And Volcano Bay

The last couple of days, we get very wet on the water rides at Universal’s Island of Adventure but find the free water squirters, we then have pleasant 30 minutes squirting innocent families. The last day is spent realxing at the new water theme park Volcano Bay, getting in there early before the crowds.

What are your favourite attractions in Orlando?
Also, have you been to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights? Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

Most Uk visitors stay at least 14 days as it is a 9-hour flight away. It is also good to have some rest days between parks as they can be exhausting, especially after 3 or 4 in a row.
