Recently we won a competition with a company called Surprise Trips. The company, part of Expedia group, works on the idea that you pick a date, a budget, the airports you can fly from and 3 destinations you do not want to go to, and then they book you on a surprise trip. You don’t know where you are going until you get to the airport, two hours beforehand!
As well as being excited and nervous about this, we also had to travel with hand luggage for the first time. Now, that may seem easy for some but if you have ever seen Mr W’s shoe collection you will realise that is virtually impossible!
Anyway we did manage to cope with packing just with hand luggage in the end, and I, Mrs W, found it surprisingly liberating. Packing clothes to wear in layers is the key, with mix and match items, such as leggings to wear with tunics, cardigans to wear over short sleeve tops and a versatile outfit for the night. I left the number of handbags and shoes I normally take at home. Think simplicity.
So we got to the airport and we were surprised with a trip to… Milan
Milan is a very classy city, and we were so glad we went there, as to be honest, we probably wouldn’t have chosen to go, as it’s not such an obvious choice as Venice or Rome. We would highly rate Surprise Trips. If you want a holiday, that’s that bit different, let go of your inner control freak and try a surprise, you never know you may even like it.
