A Stay At The Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa

What’s it like staying at the Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa in the pretty little town of Puerto de Mogán on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria. This was our first visit to Gran Canaria and after the usual ‘online research‘ and watching plenty of YouTube videos, we chose to stay at the Hotel Cordial for 7 days.

The Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa is set in its own grounds less than 10 minutes from the town centre and beach. It does have a free underground car park although the parking spaces are small. It is a large resort but didn’t feel busy or crowded during our visit.

Arrival & Check-In

On entering the hotel you’re greeted with a large open plan atrium with trees and even some caves and rocks! Check-in staff were helpful and we both were given a welcome glass of Cava. Once we were ready a porter took us to the room. The resort is relatively large and there are a number of blocks around the gardens.

The standard room was a decent size and although not new, its condition was good. The balcony was fairly large and overlooked the gardens and the main lobby building. As we booked the hotel directly and signed up for their loyalty program we did receive some wine and a basket of fruit.

The room was cleaned to a high standard daily, something which has been lacking in a number of other hotels under the cost-cutting guise ‘Covid’.

The Pools & Grounds

The hotel has two pools surrounded by plenty of seating, both have pool bars/ restaurants. The pool nearest to the lobby is the ‘quiet’ pool. Kids are allowed but no ball games or messing around. The second pool is similar in size and it’s described as the family pool.

There are plenty of other shaded areas around the grounds if you want to get away from the pool and get some privacy.

What is unique about the hotel is that the grounds have access to the archaeological park on the side of the mountain. The graves and remains of the village date back over 1000 years.

Restaurants & Dining

As well as the pool bars, the hotel has a spacious buffet restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served. There are plenty of open areas within the lobby and deck where you can eat. It was a bit chilly in the mornings when we visited but the large atrium still felt that you were eating breakfast outside.

As well as the buffet restaurant the hotel is home to the Los Guayres Fine Dining Restaurant which has a Michelin star. Although, if you are a vegetarian, it’s not the place for you.

Overall

We would definitely stay in Puerto de Mogán again and in particular at the Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa. The town is one of the prettiest resorts on the island. Although we booked the Jet2 flight and hotel separately it is available as a package.

The hotel is good for families but it’s big enough to find some peace and quiet if you are a couple. Despite being large the resort never felt crowded.

We stayed for 7 days during December and it was a perfect escape from the miserable British weather.
