Visit Bratislava Castle
To orientate yourself to this city, on your first day, climb to the top of the hill that Bratislava castle is perched on for fabulous views over the city, the Danube and the surrounding countryside. It’s only a 15-minute walk up the hill and it will certainly be worth it when you see the city in all its glory on a clear day. If you are feeling cultural you can also visit the Museum of History part of the Slovak National Museum based in the castle.
Take In The Street Art
If you love modern art, then check out the street art in Bratislava. This little city is so well known for street art that every June the Bratislava Street Art Festival takes place here over three days. The city is alive with performances from artists, live music and budding artists. But you don’t have to visit it June to take in the vibrant graffiti and street art for which the city is known. Just take a relaxing stroll and you will come across street art at every tun.
Visit The Blue Church
If you love architecture then I recommend you check out the Blue Church. The Church of St. Elizabeth commonly known as the Blue Church is a Catholic church in Bratislava Old Town. The exterior is beautifully painted in pale to mid-blue and has an unusual ornate appearance and the interior is lavishly decorated in gold and blue as well.
Enjoy The Cafe Culture
Bratislava has taken a leaf out of nearby Vienna’s love of cakes and has a thriving cafe culture. For the best cafes try one of the original cafes Stur Cafe, hip Gorilla Urban Space or Zepplin Cafe for its traditional atmosphere. It’s not all about the coffee and cakes though, as some great lunchtime food such as quiche, soup and sandwiches as well as fabulous ice-cream can be found here. However, nothing is better than sitting in a cafe in the old town with a cappuccino and a slice of delicious cake people watching, don’t you think?
Admire The Primate’s Palace
The Primate’s Palace is one of the most beautiful buildings in Slovakia, with its pale pink and white exterior. It’s where Napoleon signed a peace treaty ‘The Peace of Pressburg’ in 1805. The neoclassical palace can be visited and inside are ornate tapestries and portraits of Hungarian rulers as well as the Hall Of Mirrors where various concerts take place.
Let Loose With Paintballing
