The Guest House Vienna, A Boutique Hotel With Special Touches

Four bottles of wine, free soft drinks and a plate of apple tart greet you when you enter your room at the Guest House Vienna. Now that is exactly what I call a welcome.

The Guest House Vienna is a boutique hotel situated in the centre of Vienna. A short five-minute walk from the Hofburg Palace and opposite the Albertina art museum, you couldn’t really get a much better spot when you want to spend a few days exploring this beautiful city, with plenty of restaurants, shops, and museums on your doorstep.

We booked the hotel from reading the recommendations on TripAdvisor. The Guest House Vienna was number 2 on Tripadvisor for the city when we booked.

Recommendations on TripAdvisor aren’t gospel. First, you have to look at how many recommendations the establishment has, the more the better generally, that way you know that it isn’t just close family and friends that have left a review. Then you have to look at the bad reviews and compare them to the excellent reviews. Do they sound realistic? It can be a fine art, that’s for sure. So although we use it as a guide we still wonder how the hotel compares in real life. We shouldn’t have worried here.

Vienna is a beautiful city known for music and culture

On entering the hotel we were greeted by an exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff member called Pascal who checked us in.

We were given information on where to eat in the surrounding area, information on concerts that were on over the following few days and offered the opportunity to book tickets for the opera. Then we were shown to the room by Pascal. Pascal informed us as we entered the room that he had upgraded us, which was a lovely thing to do, and wasn’t expected as they didn’t know I was a blogger at all.

Modern but stylish room

The room was stylish and modern with a small sofa area, a double bed and a large accessible bathroom with a wet room area. The photographic prints on the wall added a fresh vibe as well as the little sweet window reading area. A small selection of books were also provided.

The coffee machine was a great touch

The little touches to the room made all the difference and made up feel spoilt. There was a one touch coffee machine, wine fridge, mini bar with complimentary soft drinks, high-speed wi-fi (so important these days), bathrobes and a personal welcome note on the table on our arrival.

We also had little cards with the details of our hotel on them which were personalised with my husband’s name. Handy if you aren’t sure where you are going after a night out in a new city!

A welcome treat

Pascal explained that soft drinks and 4 bottles of wine a day were free but anything else in the mini bar was not. There were also two complimentary slices of apple pie on the little table in the room, which were completely scrummy and a nice surprise. I think these treats were brought up from the hotel restaurant.

When surveying the room you could see there was real quality in the amenities. The TV was Bang & Olufsen and the bathroom had Molton Brown toiletries and handmade organic soaps. The room also had everything you expect in a hotel these days such as in-room safe, hair dryer, shaving mirror and individually controlled air conditioning. The bedside table even had a condom in the drawer, discreetly stashed.

The room was actually designed by British designer Sir Terence Conran and it certainly showed. Everything was super stylish, modern but comfortable. Not overly ‘trendy’ just really nicely appointed.

The wet room suitable for those with mobility issues

The hotel prides itself on its Austrian emphasis too from the wines in the restaurant and the Austrian cuisine on its menu to the photos on the wall from Austrian photographers. We ate at the restaurant once for breakfast. It had some interesting breakfast options, such as Eggs Benedict, homemade granola, and a selection of very healthy smoothies but had a high price point. My porridge was nice enough.

Comfortable lounge area

During our time here we found the beds very comfortable, and the location absolutely excellent. The Wi-Fi was good and the rooms were fairly quiet. The only slight criticism I had was that the pillows were exceptionally soft and I ended up putting some cushions underneath them to support my head at night. Also whilst the wine allowance is very generous, it would have been nice to have less wine and a few snacks instead, but honestly that isn’t a complaint, just an observation.

The restaurant

We booked the hotel through a flight and hotel package stay through British Airways to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Three nights at the Corinthia Hotel Budapest, three nights at the Guest House Vienna and flights from London Heathrow to Vienna came to £600 per person. We’ve used British Airways to book flight and hotel deals in the past and they really have some great offers, so I do genuinely recommend checking them out.

In Summary

The Guest House Vienna is a luxury modern boutique hotel with some amazing little touches, a generous complimentary soft drinks and wine selection, and the perfect central location. Staff are also friendly and welcoming. A hotel that truly lives up to it’s TripAdvisor reviews. Highly recommended. 4 1/2 stars.
